Hello Scott County researchers, Yesterday's trip to our Funk family in Houston resulted in a goldmine for us! We returned with about 100 old photos of Scott and Morgan County ancestors of my husband, Nimrod Funk. If you connect with any of these names, would you please reply to the list? I know at least one other researcher who would be interested in the results. I can e-mail copies of the photos to anyone who connects, but I have not yet scanned them. There are other names and photos, too, but I don't yet know how they connect to the families outlined below: I would appreciate ANY help I can get on these! To name a very few: Fritz HASKELL, Clyde FUNK, Clarence FUNK, Keith FUNK, John FUNK, Morris FUNK, Leslie LEIB, Mary Vera LEIB And lots, lots more. Here are some of our new findings through the pictures we received and some of those pictures.

These are children of Justin and Lois Funk Leib, married in Scott County January 6, 1892. The children are Leslie and Mary Vera Leib. I don't have dates for them yet, but mother Lois died in 1915. These two children had an older brother named Estelle, I believe. This photo was probably taken around the turn of the century. |

I am pretty sure this is a graduating class in Scott County. All the young people are wearing corsages, so it must have been some important occassion. I'm not familiar with the schools there, so I can't say which one it may be. But I do know two of the people in the photo. The young man standing at the left is my husband's grandfather, Carl Athol FUNK. He was born about 1874-75. He died in 1916. The young man seated on the right is Fritz HASKELL, also born about 1874, who became the assessor and treasurer of Scott County 1914-1918 and Scott County sheriff 1918-1922. He was very active in the community and died at 96 years old in 1970. Because both the men were born about the same time, I would think it would be safe to call it a graduating class.
Thanks for checking out these names. If you have any further information on these people, please reply to the list so that others may find a connection with you, too. I will try to get these photos scanned over the next couple of weeks. And I will probably post some of the group photos (Williams School, Modern Woodsmen Lodge, Ladies Aid Society, etc) so you can look for relatives and download them if you like. Be sure to check back often for the latest pictures and help us solve the mystery of who these people are. Regards, Kathy Funk
NOTE: I have put this page up to help Kathy identify the Scott County people in some of the pictures she has found. If you have some family goodies you would like to see highlighted on the Scott County site, please let me know. I will be happy to try to help you. As long as it has to do with genealogy I would like to help. Donna Kilroy
